Baby corals learn from mummy corals warming lessons

Corals survived through four hundred million years of climate change. Despite that, corals still surprise survivors of four years of academia with their ability to keep dealing with climate change.

It’s been known for years that after corals bleach in warmer water, they acclimatize.

Here one shiny young researcher shows her carbonnointed worldview. She asks a really interesting question:

In one study of corals, for instance, she exposed adults to increased temperature and acidification, then exposed their offspring to the same conditions to see if they are more successful because of their parents’ previous experience.

Then sees the answer through AlGoreEyes:

“Interestingly, we found that there is potential for beneficial acclimatization because of parental history,” she said. “There is a more positive metabolic response and ecological response, greater survivorship and growth if their parents have been preconditioned to future scenarios.”

What’s the difference: “Preconditioned to future scenarios” or “Evolved to survive past ones”?

Contrary to all the fake news reports of rapidly melting Arctic ice in the last few months, NSIDC now confirm that there is more sea ice now than there was on the same date in 2006.

As of yesterday, Arctic sea ice extent was 14.300 million sq km, compared to 14.286 million sq km on 20th Feb 2006.

In 2006, ice extent actually fell over the next four days, so the gap may continue to grow with a lot of cold air around at the moment there.

It was the global warming cheerleader Mark Serreze who claimed a few years back that the Arctic was screaming. I have a message for him – it was not the Arctic, it was those poor brass monkeys!

We hear all sorts of ideas about this false idea that man is causing an increase in carbon dioxide. Let us take a quick look at a research paper from a scientist named Nasif Nahle, Scientific Research Director-Biology Cabinet. The paragraph below is taken directly from his abstract: ABSTRACT Scientific studies have shown that atmospheric […]

The UK government is poised to approve Macquarie’s controversial £2 billion ($3.2 billion) bid for Green Investment Bank Green Investment Bank, despite vocal opposition to the sale from some Scottish and Labour MPs, as first reported by Street Talk on Sunday.

GIB

According to sources familiar with the long-running privatisation, British government officials have told Macquarie the deal will be approved in the coming days.

Macquarie was chosen as the government’s preferred bidder since late last year but spent the past two months sweating on the result as it became the subject of ongoing political criticism.

GIB was set up in 2012 by the current Tory government to invest in fledgling green energy and infrastructure projects including wind farms, waste and bioenergy and offshore renewables.

Former Chancellor George Osborne decided to sell it off last year to pay down public debt.
