Electricity bills increased from $80,000 to $180,000 over the past 18 months.

South Australia’s sky-high electricity prices have forced an Adelaide plastics recycler to shut its doors,” says this article on abc.net.au. The shut-down will cost 35 workers their jobs.

Plastics Granulating Services managing director Stephen Scherer said the high cost of power had crippled his business of 38 years and  had led to his company being placed in liquidation.

Den Tucker, the managing director of a company that had been using Mr Scherer’s plastics recycling services, said, “The price of our power has gone through similar numbers and we employ 45 people.”

“There is no solution being put forward at the present time,” said Tucker. “Our government is asleep at the wheel.”

Reader Rosco Mac explains the situation thusly:

South Australia’s madness affects the rest of eastern Australia because 2 other state governments privatized their electricity supply totally.

Hence when demand is high in South Australia and the big bad wolf isn’t “a-huffin and a-puffin” they import electricity through their grid connection to Victoria and the rest of eastern Australia.

The “spot” price escalates to many many times what suppliers normally get so they all line up to try to sell to South Australia.

If the South Australian government weren’t able to buy electricity from the rest of us who still have reliable coal fired power stations we’d be better of and the people of South Australia would be “lynching all their parliamentarians.

Only one state in eastern Australia did not sell their electricity generation companies – Queensland.

And guess who has the cheapest electricity (despite joining in the ridiculous solar program where solar panels used to get paid double the retail price for electricity subsidized by all the suckers who can’t afford solar panels) – Queensland !

Other states electricity prices rise by up 20% tomorrow – July 1.

Queensland – less than 3% !

RSS Find Their Missing Warming!

RSS Find Their Missing Warming!

via NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT
http://ift.tt/16C5B6P

By Paul Homewood

For years, RSS have been an embarrassment to the climate establishment. Their satellite data has consistently shown the pause in global temperatures since 1998, which so many scientists have attempted to explain.

At the same time, the surface datasets of GISS, NOAA and HADCRUT have diverged, with the help of adjustments, to show much greater warming.

The pressure on RSS to conform has been immense, and now the inevitable has happened. Highly conveniently they have found huge errors in their previous version, and have now adjusted to a new version, v4, which miraculously finds that global warming has continued unabated after all!

Even more miraculously, virtually all of the “errors” identified have occurred since 2000, thus removing the pause.

The warmist website, Carbon Brief, has the detail:

image

A new paper published in the Journal of Climate reveals that the lower part of the Earth’s atmosphere has warmed much faster since 1979 than scientists relying on satellite data had previously thought.

Researchers from Remote Sensing Systems (RSS), based in California, have released a substantially revised version of their lower tropospheric temperature record.

After correcting for problems caused by the decaying orbit of satellites, as well as other factors, they have produced a new record showing 36% faster warming since 1979 and nearly 140% faster (e.g. 2.4 times faster) warming since 1998. This is in comparison to the previous version 3 of the lower tropospheric temperature (TLT) data published in 2009.

Climate sceptics have long claimed that satellite data shows global warming to be less pronounced that observational data collected on the Earth’s surface. This new correction to the RSS data substantially undermines that argument. The new data actually shows more warming than has been observed on the surface, though still slightly less than predicted in most climate models.

Produced by Carbon Brief using data from RSS.

Both the old record, version 3 in grey, and new record, version 4 in red, are shown in the figure above, along with the difference between the two, in black. The trends since 1998 for both are shown by dashed lines.

Most of the difference between the old and new record occurs after the year 2000. While the old record showed relatively little warming during the oft-debated post-1998 “hiatus” period, the new record shows warming continuing unabated through to present. Similarly, while the old RSS v3 record showed 2016 only barely edging out 1998 as the warmest year in the satellite record, the new v4 record shows 2016 as exceeding 1998 by a large margin.

I’ve no doubt Roy Spencer or John Christy will soon weigh in with their technical assessment of this, but it gets clearer everyday that most official climate information has become untrustworthy and essentially worthless.

How the Climate Doomsters Are the Problem, Not the Solution They Claim to Be

How the Climate Doomsters Are the Problem, Not the Solution They Claim to Be

Climate alarmists are basically failed doomsday forecasters. For a few examples see here. They believe that the world as we know it will disappear, usually because of global warming, more recently renamed climate change, often in ten years or so. But they hold out one ray of hope. If the world greatly decreases emissions of greenhouse gases (GHGs), mainly carbon dioxide (CO2), then it will not undergo their predicted catastrophic anthropogenic global warming (CAGW). This has been their basic message for several decades. Like most doomsday forecasters, they have repeatedly had to admit that the predicted catastrophes have not happened on their doomsday schedule, but always reaffirm that their faulty predictions have only been postponed.

The alarmists say that the “necessary” reductions in GHG/CO2 emissions can be accomplished by “simply” substituting certain renewable sources of energy, mainly solar and wind, for fossil fuels, so the modern world will then be able to continue its “profligate” use of energy to help humans carry out their daily tasks without generating (as much) CO2. In their view less atmospheric CO2 means lower global temperatures and therefore lower risks of CAGW.

But What if Changes in CO2 Levels Have No Significant Effect on Global Temperatures?

But what if decreases in atmospheric CO2 levels have no significant effect on global temperatures? What if such decreases mainly adversely affect plants, so important for humans and other animals? In this case, substituting wind and solar would have no significant effect on global warming. It would simply result in substituting much more expensive, unreliable, and heavily subsidized renewables for inexpensive, reliable fossil fuels. And later (but much earlier than in the case of much longer lasting fossil fuel plants), all these windmills and solar panels will have to be torn down and disposed of when they wear out or are abandoned due to the eventual end of subsidies. The photovoltaic solar installations contain large amount of toxic substances, so this will not be easy or inexpensive. Huge windmill blades also present disposal problems. And who will pay for all this? Maybe taxpayers as the wind and solar companies go bankrupt?

In fact, recent research shows that changes in atmospheric CO2 levels have no significant effect on global temperatures. The world may be doomed, but not from increasing human-caused CO2 emissions. So climate alarmists appear to be doomed to pushing back their all important doomsday forecasts–for ever and ever. And it is ratepayers and taxpayers that are actually doomed to end up footing the huge bill first for subsidizing the construction of wind and solar installations, then enduring the resulting unreliability of the electric grids, and finally for their huge disposal costs. All this because the alarmists got their climate science wrong before starting to make their doomsday forecasts. So the major climate doom we face is that taxpayers and ratepayers will end up paying out enormous sums as a result of politicians that foolishly listened to the climate doomsayers.

EPA To Launch Red Team/Blue Team Program To Evaluate Climate Science

EPA To Launch Red Team/Blue Team Program To Evaluate Climate Science

U.S. EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt is leading a formal initiative to challenge mainstream climate science using a “back-and-forth critique” by government-recruited experts, according to a senior administration official.

U.S. EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt favors reopening the endangerment finding on greenhouse gases, according to Robert Murray, CEO of Murray Energy Corp. @EPAScottPruitt/Twitter

The program will use “red team, blue team” exercises to conduct an “at-length evaluation of U.S. climate science,” the official said, referring to a concept developed by the military to identify vulnerabilities in field operations.

“The administrator believes that we will be able to recruit the best in the fields which study climate and will organize a specific process in which these individuals … provide back-and-forth critique of specific new reports on climate science,” the source said.

“We are in fact very excited about this initiative,” the official added. “Climate science, like other fields of science, is constantly changing. A new, fresh and transparent evaluation is something everyone should support doing.”

The disclosure follows the administration’s suggestions over several days that it supports reviewing climate science outside the normal peer-review process used by scientists. This is the first time agency officials acknowledged that Pruitt has begun that process. The source said Energy Secretary Rick Perry also favors the review.

Executives in the coal industry interpret the move as a step toward challenging the endangerment finding, the agency’s legal foundation for regulating greenhouse gases from cars, power plants and other sources. Robert Murray, CEO of Murray Energy Corp., said Pruitt assured him yesterday that he plans to begin reviewing the endangerment finding within months.

“We talked about that, and they’re going to start addressing it later this year,” Murray said in an interview. “They’re going to start getting a lot of scientific people in to give both sides of the issue.”

Climate scientists express concern that the “red team, blue team” concept could politicize scientific research and disproportionately elevate the views of a relatively small number of experts who disagree with mainstream scientists (Climatewire, June 29).

Pruitt told about 30 people attending a board meeting of the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity yesterday morning that he’s establishing a “specific process” to review climate science, the administration official said. Murray and two other people in the room interpreted Pruitt as saying he would challenge the endangerment finding.

Challenging the endangerment finding would be enormously difficult, according to many lawyers. The finding is built on an array of scientific material establishing that human health and welfare is endangered by a handful of greenhouse gases emitted by industry, power plants and cars. It stems from a Supreme Court ruling in 2007.

If Pruitt somehow succeeded in rolling back the finding — an outcome that many Republicans say is far-fetched — the federal government would no longer be required to restrict greenhouse gas emissions.
