At Last! UK Said to Seek End For 2020 Renewables Target

Britain is looking for ways to scrap its 2020 clean energy targets while maintaining everyday trade in Europe’s energy market, an early sign of the kind of cherry-picking that threatens to sour Brexit negotiations.

Officials in the Treasury and the business department are looking for a way to abandon the national goal of getting 15 percent renewable energy by 2020, which is almost double the current level, according to a person with knowledge of the matter who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private.

Erasing the target would allow Britain to skirt fines that could reach 10s of millions of pounds since it’s on track to narrowly miss the 2020 goal. It would also move the U.K. out of step with other European Union nations that maintain targets as part of their membership in the region’s energy market. The U.K. wishes to preserve its link to the market and smooth cross-border trading of electricity, which has helped lower power prices, the person said.

“There is a risk that energy gets wrapped up in the wider political negotiation, with the EU seeking to make access to the Internal Energy Market subject to the U.K. signing up to future energy and environment legislation,” said Simon Virley, head of power and utilities at consultants KPMG LLP an a former director-general of the U.K.’s energy and climate ministry. “That is when it could get difficult.”

The move is an example of Prime Minister Theresa May’s government seeking to maintain the most advantageous parts of the EU relationship while scrapping rules concerning to business — the sort of “cherry picking” that the European Commission has ruled out. May began the two-year process of leaving the union on March 29. And while renewables targets and electricity market rules are negotiated differently, they link at the level of political discussions.

Would you like racism with your results?

….

Therefore Science with Intersectional Feminism is Black Supremacy?

Lets jog down the road to Apartheid science?

What Does “Intersectionality” Mean? (I knew you’d ask)

Originally, intersectionality referred to the discrimination faced by black women that is not only sexism and racism, but an experience that is more than the sum of its parts (now referred to as “misogynoir” in black feminist and womanist circles). Intersectionality has since been expanded to include the analysis of discrimination faced by anyone who identifies with the multiple social, biological, and cultural groups that are not favored in a patriarchal, capitalist, white supremacist society.

i.e. translated: Intersectionality is the study of discrimination which discriminates against older white men.

Science used to be about measurements and observations. Seemed to work.

Track version of shuttle pod already in use at Heathrow airport.

No steering wheel or brake pedal, controlled by a computer, on a riverside path – do you feel lucky? Then step aboard…

Members of the British public are getting their first extended trial of a driverless shuttle bus, reports BBC News. Over the next three weeks, about 100 people will travel in a prototype shuttle on a route in Greenwich, London.

The vehicle, which travels at up to 10mph (16.1kmph), will be controlled by a computer. However, there will be a trained person on board who can stop the shuttle if required. Oxbotica, the firm that developed the shuttle, said 5,000 members of the public had applied to take part in the study.

“Very few people have experienced an autonomous vehicle, so this is about letting people see one in person,” chief executive Graeme Smith told the BBC. “We hope to gain acceptance from members of the public for vehicles sharing this kind of space with them. We are also looking at how people in the vehicle respond when being transported from A to B.”

‘Fail-safe’

The shuttle seats four people and has no steering wheel or brake pedal.

During the trial, five cameras and three lasers will help it navigate a two-mile riverside path near London’s O2 Arena, an area also used by pedestrians and cyclists.

It can see up to 100m (328ft) ahead and comes to a steady stop if it detects something in its path – although it can also do an emergency brake if required. “It’s been designed to be safe and fail-safe specifically in a pedestrianised environment,” Dr Smith said.

Officials behind the Gateway Project believe the shuttles could improve transport links in Greenwich. They say paying passengers could begin using the system by 2019 on a trial basis and that it could eventually be rolled out elsewhere.

Scientists Uncertain Over Future Development of El Niño

Scientists Uncertain Over Future Development of El Niño

The predictions on the activity of meteorological phenomenon ”El Niño” for the present year, are still uncertain, since it is not still known if it will develop at global, or at a local level, reported the World Meteorological Organization.

Despite the strong rains affecting Peru, as a consequence of what is known as ‘El Niño Costero’ the scientific community cannot still determine what is going to happen in the year 2017.’It seems that farther in the year, a global event of ‘El Niño’ will be developed, but if there is a very strong phenomenon of ‘El Niño Costero’, that does not mean, that there is a phenomenon of ‘El Niño Costero’ in all the planet’, said World Weather Organization spokesman Claire Nullis in a press round.

‘El Nino Costero’ is an original meteorological phenomenon occurred in Peru in 1925, from which later what is identified as ‘El Niño’ has now an impact in the entire world.

‘There is no consensus among the scientists for the time being, perhaps some more days of the the present month, we’ll have a clearer image, since many strange phenomena are occurring with the weather system,’ added Nullis.
