Temperatures in capitals plunge as low as -5 degrees as ski fields get another dump of snow.
The mercury plunged to below 10 degrees in every capital city except for Darwin but it’s NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania that’s feeling the cold dip the most.
Sydney had a low of eight degrees this morning, but those in the western suburbs are still feeling the chill. Katoomba is currently sitting at a brisk 1.7 degrees. Further afield, Oberon, west of the Blue Mountains, had significant snowfall overnight.
Snowy Mountains in NSW received 60cm (2 ft) of snow over the last 24 hours and is forecast to receive another 10cm in the next day.
Roughly 10-20cm of snow also dropped in Thredbo and Charlotte Pass on Saturday night.
On Saturday Thredbo opened its 2018 ski season with its best first day in years with temperatures at -5 degrees and 55cm of snow. More snowfall in the ski field is expected until Tuesday.
