Chile snowfall traps more than 1,600

18 June 2018 – Snowfall in La Araucanía has isolated 1,660 people, according to the Office of National Emergency.

The most affected commune is Lonquimay, with 1,559 isolates; Melipeuco with 87; and Pucón with 14.

The Municipality of La Araucanía has decided to maintain the Yellow Alert for the communes of Lonquimay, Melipeuco and Curarrehue due to the snowfall.

On Monday afternoon there was snowfall in the center of Santiago, prompting the Chilean president and his wife to have a snowball fight.

And is is cold. The San Pedro lagoon is completely frozen, with ice about 10 cm thick.
