No sign that AGW alarmists are losing the war
Many people ignore the impoverished billions in the steadfast belief we MUST save the planet and fix the climate

I’ve taken an interest in the CO2 causes warming theory for more than 30 years. Initially I tended to think that maybe we had a problem.
I was an Environmental Health Officer and part of my duties were environmental monitoring and pollution control. I remember the first high school students coming to the council I worked in early 1988 for seeking information on pollution control for projects they were set. Their focus was on energy and pollution. At this time vehicle emissions contained lead as lead free mandated vehicles was in its infancy.
Clearly these students were being guided to the proposition that man’s activities polluted the atmosphere and it was demonstrably true. I clearly remember the LP “Greetings from LA” by Tim Buckley in 1972. At the time views of LA resembled a “gas chamber” as did Tokyo, London and many other large northern hemisphere cities.
Funnily enough China’s air quality seemed OK – mainly because everyone rode bicycles.
The global warming message caused by man’s emissions of atmospheric “pollutants” and the never ending tugs at the heartstrings to “save the planet” was a powerful message and it really bit.
Today, 30 years after those students came to my office, I changed my viewpoint on CO2, thanks largely to 2009’s “climategate” affair.
I had time to research and gradually began to believe the hypothesis is wrong – in fact I couldn’t believe well educated people could take it seriously at all.
That said I do think we should preserve what remaining wild areas remain on Earth and clearly the burgeoning human population threatens this. How we deal with this is clearly a problem and I will never seek to deny anyone less fortunate than I the opportunity to a better life.
Hence the climate change alarm. In my opinion many people ignore the impoverished billions in the steadfast belief we MUST save the planet and fix the climate.
Mind you I have no complaints about the climate where I live – it is warmer than 50 years ago but I still believe CO2 has bugger all to do with it.
That said I see no sign that the alarmists are losing the war for the hearts and minds.
In Australia recently the resurgence in negative climate stories has ratcheted up over this year and every day there is some climate story AND ALL of the media personalities maintain their former positions.
Most of the mainstream are full on alarmists whilst some remain completely opposed. The latter continue to be decried as deniers.
But I see no sign that climate alarm will ever die – even an ice age will be blamed on CO2 and at least 50% of the population will buy it.
