India – 1,000 still stranded in Himachal Pradesh

Almost 900 already rescued, but more than 1,000 remain stranded by early heavy snowfall. Rescue enters Day 3

28 Sep 2018 – Early heavy snowfall on the Rohtang Pass (13,050 ft) has cut off the Lahaul and Spiti Valleys, stranding a large number of tourists at a number of locations and hampering water and electricity supplies.

Search and rescue operation for more than 1,000 people, mostly tourists, began early on Thursday for the third day.

Early snowfall in the higher reaches, cloud burst and heavy rains had devastated large parts of the state from September 22 to 24.
