Wintry weather arrived in Montana several days ago, with more intense storms this week.
Laura Monroe and her husband said that the 14 to 16 inches (more than 36 cm) of snow on their land north of Browning has made it nearly impossible for them to reach their 250 cattle.
They were set to ship their calves this first weekend in October to Great Falls, but had to cancel.
Laura said they usually don’t see this much snow (more than a foot) this early in late September or early October.
Not only has it been stressful trying to figure out how to ship their calves, they have also been stressed trying to find a way to get feed to them, because once the snow re-freezes, the cows will not be able to get to the grass beneath the snow at all.
