Bracing for record cold and a foot (30 cm) of snow in the Rockies

14 Oct 2018 – Winter is creeping in early this year as snow storm advisories are issued across eight states.

Parts of Colorado, Kansas and New Mexico have been blanketed with snow –  up to 12 inches in some areas – while Nebraska, Wyoming and Montana have been issued weather warnings for heavy snowfall.

According to the Weather Channel, parts of Montana, Wyoming and the Black Hills of South Dakota have gotten six to 12 inches of snow, and roads have been forced to close in parts of Wyoming.

About two to four inches of snow are expected in areas of Nebraska, Colorado, Kansas and New Mexico through Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the Wet Mountains and the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado could see eight to 16 inches of snow.

Snow continues falling in parts of northern Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, southern Minnesota and northern Iowa.

Meanwhile, the Plains and Rockies are in for a blast of record lows.
