4ft drifts and “snow like this has not been seen like this since 1952” says the rangers to khon2 channel’s correspondent.

Telescopes froze over

At the top of the volcano Kaleakala, telescopes of world importance were covered with ice.

“About 30 cm (12 inches) of snow fell,” said photographer Rob Ratkowski. “Buildings, observatories and fences are covered with ice.”
