Russia – Record cold threatens crops

“Such low temperatures in the south of Russia (far, far below freezing) are very dangerous, since at the end of April there is an active vegetative period of plants, gardens are blooming, the first crops are sprouting,” warns Meteo-TV.

Russia’s Far East set the following minimum temperature records for April 22:

The city of Svobodny (Amur Oblast) -10.6°C (12.9F) (previous record: -8.9°C in 2001).

In Blagoveshchensk it was -7.5°C (18.5F). The last record was recorded in 1937 and amounted to -7.1°C.

The Jewish Autonomous Region also set new records: in the village of Ekaterino-Nikolskoye -6.6°C (20.1F) beating the previous record set in 1991 -6°C.

On the European territory of Russia in the south the temperature is noticeably below normal. Here it is no higher than +15, and at night the frosts to -1… -6°C were again noted.

In Stavropol, a new record for the minimum temperature for April 22: the air has cooled to -2.2°C! The previous record was in 1993 -1.5°C.
