It seems hard to believe that intelligent people could be brain-washed, but if you look at some of the suicide bombers in I.S. you will find that they appear to be intelligent people. Some were studying for degrees, others were qualified doctors. So it’s not impossible by any means that a cabinet minister could be susceptible, (Not to I.S, I hasten to add) but to the less insidious cult of climate change.
That is one of the possible explanations for them accepting unquestioningly those who claim we are now in a "climate emergency". There are other explanations, such as that they want to appease the noisy alarmist lobby. However to do so they are storing up a lot of trouble as climate alarmists will make more and more demands which will be impossible to meet, so why not be honest in the first place?
The endless propaganda war to get us all to believe that global warming is a real threat has worked on some school children to the extent that they are anxious, fearful and obsessed by it. Is this what the government actually want? It seems so by the way they have reacted to Swedish school girl Greta Thunberg.
A more rational response would be to reassure someone and tell them that it is not as bad as she fears. But that would mean going off-message. Ministers could also warn that it is simply not possible to comply with demands to end fossil fuel use before 2050, as to do so would mean many poor people would go cold and hungry and many thousands of jobs would be lost. Without air travel the tourist trade would dry up.
All these are sound logical responses, and yet we hear none of them – instead just agreement with all the doom and gloom.
