Italy – Snow and cold could cause 50 percent agricultural losses

Damages in the millions with the potential for far more.

MeteoWeb has other links to the Italian agricultural impacts from all the snow and cold with losses up to 50%:

“It is another ugly blow to Verona’s agriculture, hit again a week after the hailstorm that damaged the crops of the Basso Veronese, from soybeans to corn to wheat,” stressed Andrea Lavagnoli, president of Cia Agricoltori Italiani Verona. “The season starts badly and this cold does not help, because it blocks the vegetative growth of the plants and delays the ripening of the fruit .”

The final comment reads:
“Hail has marked all the fruits, which will therefore be depreciated. And if we think that in 2018 the second-choice fruit was valued at 5 cents, then it is clear that those who have been damaged by hail will have thrown away their work.”

Damages in the millions with the potential for far more:

“The anomalous wave of bad weather accompanied by frost and snow jeopardizes the vegetable and vegetable harvests of the Garfagnana and Lucca areas and worries farmers.”

“The account for agriculture could rise exponentially because with low temperatures for several days even plants, from citrus to olive trees, may be compromised.”

At least two more weeks of “anomalous” (below normal) temperatures for the Iberian peninsula, warns Italian Air Force:
