Left Wing Luvvie Mark Rylance–Hypocrite Of The Month

Oscar-winning actor Sir Mark Rylance has resigned from the Royal Shakespeare Company in protest at the organisation’s sponsorship deal with oil giant BP.

Sir Mark, 59, is one of Britain’s most respected stage actors, has appeared in dozens of Shakespeare stage productions, and has been associated with the Company (RSC) for 30 years.

But in a resignation letter, he said he was quitting because of the organisation’s relationship with the ‘world-killing’ company, which it has been sponsored by since 2011.

Sir Mark, who has portrayed numerous characters from Shakespeare’s plays, including Richard III and the female Olivia in Twelfth Night, likened BP to an ‘arms dealer’ in his statement.

In an article published in The Guardian, he said: ‘I recently let the RSC know that I feel I must resign as I do not wish to be associated with BP any more than I would with an arms dealer, a tobacco salesman or anyone who wilfully destroys the lives of others alive or unborn. Nor, I believe, would William Shakespeare.

He continued: ‘The RSC will continue pushing BP’s brand on to a generation of young people who have – in huge numbers through the ongoing school strikes – told adults they need to step up their response to the climate crisis now.

‘Surely the RSC wants to be on the side of the world-changing kids, not the world-killing companies?’

Mark Rylance has a penchant for dressing up in silly trousers. He also seems to labour under the delusion that people have the slightest interest in anything he does or says.

Unfortunately most of the newspapers have not got the message.

Rylance is your archetypical leftie luvvie, Stop the War Coalition, Taxes for Peace Not War and the like.

His socialist views, however, don’t seem to apply to his private life, during which he has accumulated an estimated net wealth of $10 million.

Now he has the wicked BP in his sights.

Now I have no he would not dream of being hypocritical enough to use fossil fuels in his private life. Despite his wealth, I am sure he never travels by car, uses a taxi, heats his home or buys anything made with the help of fossil fuels.

But three years ago, he appeared on stage in New York, in a play directed by his wife.

And that was not just a one off. The following year, Rylance was back on Broadway with his new play:

Now the last time I checked, New York is separated from Britain, where Rylance lives, by a big, blue wobbly thing called the Atlantic Ocean.

Unless he rowed across, I think we can safely assume that our hypocritical Mr Rylance either flew or went by ship.

And it was not just him who went to New York. The Farinelli production on Broadway featured all of the cast from the London play, along with the props.

Quite a sizeable carbon footprint, I would say!

Luvvies caught out this way always argue that they have to fly around the world because of “work”. This is of course utter bilge. The likes of Rylance are rich enough not to have to travel abroad for work.

As ever, it is one rule for them and another for us.

Congratulations, Mark! You are the proud winner of the Hypocrite of the Month Award.
