Freeze warning for parts of New Mexico and Texas

A Freeze/Hard Freeze Warning is in effect after midnight for portions of Southeast New Mexico, western portions of the Permian Basin and the higher terrain of West Texas.

Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 expected.

* WHERE…Portions of southeast New Mexico and southwest and western Texas.

Including Southern Lea County-Dawson-Borden-Andrews-Martin-Loving-Winkler-Ward-Eastern Culberson County-Reeves County Plains-Marfa Plateau-Central Brewster County-Including the cities of Eunice, Jal, Lamesa, Gail, Andrews, Stanton, Mentone, Kermit, Monahans, Pecos, Marfa, Big Bend NP, Panther Junction, and Marathon

* IMPACTS…Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have  in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
