Sea Levels Around The US Aren’t Just Rising, They’re Accelerating Year on Year

Even the Washington Post knows that the Gulf Coast is sinking.

Scientists say the rapid sinking of Louisiana’s coast already counts as a ‘worst case scenario’ – The Washington Post

Sea level is Alaska is dropping rapidly. There is no indication that sea level rise rates are accelerating anywhere around the US.  If they were, there would be an upwards curvature.

New Record Low Temperature For Greenland Set Last Month

By Paul Homewood

A month ago, it was reported that a record low temperature for Greenland had been provisionally set on 2nd January:

 image

Summit Camp, also known as Summit Station, is a year-round research station on the apex of the Greenland Ice Sheet. It is located some 10,500 ft (3,200 m) above sea level, and it’s data is often cited by climate alarmists claiming “Greenland Is Melting Away Before Our Very Eyes” and other such nonsense…

Adding to the list of temperature measurements those alarmists will likely ignore –or won’t even get to hear about given the mainstream media’s warm-bias– is Summit Camp’s preliminary low of -86.8F (-66C) set at 11:13 PM on January 02, 2020.

Image

The reading, once confirmed by the DMI, will enter the books as Greenland’s coldest-ever recorded temperature–not only at Summit Camp, and not only in January, but of anywhere across the island, and of any month of the year.

ImageTable of the old Summit Camp temp records (all-time low record smashed on Jan 02, 2019).

Somehow, in what we’re to believe is a linearly warming world, Greenland –the poster boy for global warming– is currently the coldest we’ve ever known it to be.

Furthermore, the Camp’s measurement isn’t far off the lowest ever recorded in the Northern Hemisphere — that title remains with Oymyakon, Russia, and it’s 1933 observation of −89.9F (−67.7C).

https://electroverse.net/greenland-just-set-a-new-all-time-record-low-temperature/

To the best of my knowledge, this fact has not been reported in the MSM, nor by the official agencies, such as NOAA, DMI, NSIDC or the UK Met Office, as would quickly have happened if it had been a record high.

Neither has the temperature measurement even been officially confirmed.

I have therefore contact DMI, who have ultimate responsibility for Greenland, and received this reply from John Cappelen:

I have now had the opportunity to go through the American observations from NOAA GeoSummit from January 2, 2020 . I have at NOAA’s wab-site found January 2020 ftp data up to January 15, 2020.

January 2, 2020 was a cold day at SUMMIT and 23:13 utc the temperature had a minimum -64,9C…the same temperature was registered 23:15 and also 23:16 utc….data looks all right….I have attached 60 minute-observations of temperature in degrees celsius from GeoSummit NOAA (SUM)  January, 2, 2020 23:00-23:59 utc

As you can see NOAA GeoSummit measure the lowest temperature -64,9C January 2, 2020. I do not know if that a record breaking temperature at NOAA Geosummit. You have to ask NOAA about that?

At DMI Summit…now closed…the lowest temperature measured during the time the station was alive was -63,3C  on February, 21, 2002…but have in mind that DMI Summit only measured every 3 hours and that no min and max temperatures exist from that station.

https://www.dmi.dk/vejrarkiv/vejrekstremer-groenland/

I cannot see -66C as you mention in the GeoSummit NOAA data?

best regards,

John Cappelen

Senior Climatologist MsC, Science Writer, Data Management Specialist

Although the DMI equipment has now been closed, it was at the same location as the Geo Summit, so readings should be comparable.

Quite clearly then, a new record low has been set for both Summit and Greenland. Whether it is –64.9C, as stated by John Cappelen, or the graphic reading from Electroverse remains a mystery.

Nevertheless, we await the new record to be officially declared by NOAA, and reported in the world’s press!

Climate change means homeowners should no longer expect protection from floods, government to announce

By Paul Homewood

h/t Philip Bratby

Homeowners should no longer automatically expect to be protected from major floods, ministers will announce in the coming weeks.

Under a radical policy shift drawn up by the Environment Agency, flooding will be seen as inevitable due to the predicted effects of climate change.

Instead of spending millions on “limitlessly high walls” and barriers, the government will help people to rebuild their water-damaged homes or to move away from flood-risk areas.

It comes after the Environment Agency was accused of leaving parts of the country at the mercy of Storm Dennis, which continued to cause devastation on Monday.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/02/17/climate-change-means-homeowners-should-no-longer-expect-protection/

Not all agree though, as the Telegraph report:

On Monday a former environment secretary accused the Environment Agency of using climate change as a “cop out” to avoid having to strengthen Britain’s flood defences.

Owen Paterson, whose Shropshire North constituency has been affected by Storm Dennis, said: “It has always rained in the UK in winter. The trick is to get it to go down again. You have to manage the countryside and you have to manage the rivers.

“It is a complete cop out to blame it all on climate change.”

Meanwhile the Environment Agency was also accused of “hiding behind” EU directives to avoid having to pay for Britain’s clogged waterways to be dredged.

Innes Thomson, chief executive of the Association of Drainage Authorities, claimed the flood risk in some areas would be “massively reduced” if silt was removed from swollen rivers.

“The Environment Agency has been hiding behind EU rules supposed to protect wildlife,” he said.

“But the technology exists to safely remove silt and the EA knows it. It’s happening in some places, but not nearly enough.”

Mr Paterson, who served as environment secretary between 2012 and 2014, accused the EA of having a “mentality” that dredging is a “bad idea”.

“What these people have unwittingly done with their idiotic views, they have delivered an environmental catastrophe of the first order,” he said.

As we have known for a while, the EA is attempting to abdicate their responsibility by simply blaming climate change.

Regardless of its exact effects, Owen Paterson is quite correct in stating that Britain has always had bad floods, and it is the EA’s job to mitigate them. If they are not prepared to, them they need to be replaced with an organisation that can.

Having said that, I have no objection in a bit of lateral thinking. We all know that far too many houses have been built on flood plains. We also know that, even in places like Hebden Bridge, the number of homes actually flooded are actually a very small number. Maybe it would make more sense rehousing these people, or flood proofing their homes, instead of spending hundreds of millions erecting flood defences which can often end up simply transferring the problem downriver?

Storm Dennis: Minister says climate change means government can’t protect everyone from flooding

Not sure where the 90 mph winds were supposed to be (the report says ‘parts of the UK’), but it has been blustery on and off for a few days. Enough for politicians to raise the spectre of ‘climate change’ once again, anyway. The video of an A380 Airbus making a hairy ‘crab’ landing at Heathrow, ending on the grass, gives some indication of wind strength.

One reporter jokingly suggested watching the massive plane struggling to get on the ground could help climate campaigners, by putting people off flying altogether.
– – –
Storm Dennis battered the UK with flooding, heavy rain and 90mph winds at the weekend.

A minister has said climate change means the government cannot protect every household from flooding, reports Yahoo News.

New environment minister George Eustice claimed the government had not been caught off-guard by the floods caused by Storm Dennis.

Dennis was the second major storm to hit the UK in a week, following the heavy rain, flooding and 90mph winds brought by Storm Ciara the previous weekend.

During a visit to York to discuss tackling flooding, Eustice told Sky News: “We’ve done a huge amount – we can’t do anything about these extreme weather events, but the steps we’ve taken have meant the impact of those weather events have affected fewer properties.”

But he added: “There is always more that can be done.

“We’ll never be able to protect every single household, just because of the nature of climate change and the fact that these weather events are becoming more extreme, but we’ve done everything that we can do with a significant sum of money, and there’s more to come.”

Parts of the UK were buffeted with winds of more than 90mph during Storm Dennis, while more than a month’s worth of rain fell in 48 hours in places.
