There have been “…at least 34 million flu illnesses, 350,000 hospitalizations, and 20,000 deaths from flu” by the end of February in the USA so far this flu season. The current US population is 331 million, so 10.27% of all Americans have gotten the flu so far during this flu season. Of those 34 million flu cases in the USA, 1.02% have resulted in hospitalization and 0.058% have resulted in death. As of 5 hours ago, on 3/7/2020, the COVID-19 death toll in the USA reached 17, out of 340 confirmed cases (according to John Hopkins). Apparently the main threat of the COVID-19 virus is its high mortality rate, not its number of cases.
Yesterday (3/6/2020) the Washington Post reported that “Coronavirus could halt the world’s emissions growth. Not that we should feel good about that.” Their message being that Coronavirus has caused an industrial, economic, and transportation shutdown that helps to prevent CO2-caused warming.
