Some areas of northern Maine might get more than 1½ feet (45 cm) of snow and high winds as a winter – WINTER – storm blows through.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning from Penobscot Valley and Maine’s central highlands to the Canadian border. It is expected to dump the most snow, 17 inches, from Dover-Foxcroft to Lincoln and Topsfield, according to a forecast on the service website.
The advisory includes warnings that road conditions will get treacherous and make driving hazardous.
Southeastern Aroostook County and central to northern Aroostook, Penobscot and Piscataquis counties will be hardest hit, with Northern Washington and southern Piscataquis counties also seeing at least eight inches of snow by Friday evening, according to the advisory.
Southern Oxford, Franklin and Somerset counties should start seeing a mix of snow, freezing rain and sleet. The weather service office in Gray issued a 24-hour hazardous weather warning beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday.
