Nursing homes were not even allowed to ask whether the transferee was positive.
So it was impossible even to TRY to isolate the covid-positive.

Governors’ Orders Responsible for Many Nursing Home Deaths
Penelope
In Michigan, as in New York, the number of deaths in nursing homes was greatly increased by an order of the States’ governors: In both cases, the nursing homes were forbidden to turn away covid-positive hospital transferees.
In US population of 328.2 million, 2.1 million (.62%), are in Nursing Homes or Assisted Living– yet they accounted for 42% of covid deaths.
The States that didn’t participate in this insane order, like Florida, had comparatively few deaths.
While Americans were wearing masks & practicing social distancing “to protect the elderly against infection” several governors were preventing Nursing Homes from protecting their residents against infection. THEY WERE NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO ASK WHETHER THE TRANSFEREE WAS POSITIVE. So it was impossible even to TRY to isolate the covid-positive.
Can’t find my major source on this, but here’s a NY Post story on it.
