The graphs (see link below) clearly indicate that all that lockdowns do is prolong the mental, physical and economic misery. New Zealand is the exception because of unique circumstances: small country, an island, few international airports and few cases seeded.
In the period from the time China thought there might be a problem to our banning of flights from China, over 300,00 people entered the US from China and Italy. Add Brits and the number approaches 400,000. How many of these people were infected? We will never know but it is almost certain that many diagnoses during this time period of the flu were COVID -19. Given that huge number of visitors and the multiple entry ports to the US, it is likely we were seeded by hundreds, if not thousands, of COVID positive individuals.
At that point, NO legislation could affect the outcome, other than to make life miserable and the final end point, inevitable and prolonged. The possibility exists that up to 100 million of us could become infected, That is not the result of poor politics but rather the intrinsic qualities of a virus for which we have no innate immunity. We are 1917-18 redux.
God bless those who have died and those about to.
