Toronto shatters daily snowfall record

Almost triple previous daily record, and almost triple average snowfall for the entire month of November.

Some 19.4 cm of snowfall hit Toronto on Sunday. This shattered the record of 7.6cm on the same date (22 Nov) in 2007.

Snow started falling early Sunday morning and began accumulating in some areas rather quickly. By 1 p.m. Brampton already had 8-11cm with totals of close 25cm in the northeast area of the city.

The typical first 10cm snowfall of the winter is in mid-December. The earliest November snowfall of 10cm or more was seen on Nov. 2, 1966.

The average November snowfall is only 7.5cm. By Monday morning snowfall accumulation in Toronto had reached 21cm, almost triple average snowfall for the entire month of November.
