The dependence on intermittent forms of electricity has opened up a new market for short term supplies to top up the shortfall. Diesel generators are one type, but they are obviously not the preferred choice so a new type is to use a system consisting of an array of solar panels which charge up a bank of batteries. They can command a high price for the electricity which makes it a good investment. This is another reason why renewables will inevitably lead to highly priced electricity.
