I have come across suggestions that this winter has been the wettest on record. One claim in particular came on GB News on Saturday from Donnachadh McCarthy, the extremist environmentalist, who is often allowed to get away unchallenged with blatant incorrect statements. His claim, he said, came from Met Office data.
He was lying, because it was a long way from being the wettest winter.
He did not say which region he was talking about, but in the UK as a whole, it was only 8th wettest, in England the 6th and in Wales the 8th wettest. (The show discussed the Welsh Govt’s decision to rewild/reforest 20% of farmland ):
Mention was made by McCarthy of a rainfall series going back to the 18thC, so presumably he was talking of the England & Wales series, which also shows 2023/24 as being the 6th wettest:

It is frustrating how extremists such as McCarthy and Jim Dale not only get so much airtime, but are also allowed to get away with blatant mistruths.
