Education researchers say some Australian teachers still feel climate change is a “controversial” and difficult topic to teach.

The researchers urge an emphasis on practical ways to address climate change issues, to avoid triggering “eco-anxiety” in students.

Updates to the national curriculum in 2022 put a greater emphasis on teaching climate change in schools, but Dr White says it’s limited.

“We’re seeing a little bit of an increase for the opportunity to explore climate change education through this curriculum, mostly in the areas of science and geography in Year 10,” she says.

“Unfortunately, a lot of our students across Australia don’t take science or geography in year 10. So there’s a bit of a challenge there.”

Climate change also features in some state and territory curriculums, but Dr White says many teachers aren’t resourced, or are reluctant, to include it.

“They’re managing all sorts of family attitudes. And that plays out in a classroom in really strong ways,” she says.

While researchers claim they’re advising teachers to take a “practical” approach, there is evidence the climate curriculum in Australia is doing immense harm to children’s mental wellbeing.

Imagine what it is like for parents, when the kids come home from mandatory climate education and tell parents “today we learned we’re all going to die – and it’s your fault!”.

No wonder teachers are receiving pressure to ease up.

And for teachers who refuse to ease up, I wonder how many kids in their classes are being coached by their parents about how to lie to their teacher? I’ve spoken to parents who told me they have embraced this tactic – telling kids the climate crisis is fake, then coaching kids to lie to their teachers.

Teaching kids to lie to their teacher at a young age is a terrible thing, but it is better than watching kids develop mental health problems because they believe the world is about to end, or because they are being constantly bullied by their climate zealot teacher for “failing” to rote learn all the leftist green doomsday cult trash they are being taught.

It seems the scientists at NOAA have decided they can play god with our planet’s climate system. The recently released NOAA fact sheet on Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) reads like a manifesto for techno-utopian hubris, proposing a future where carbon capture and geoengineering are wielded as tools to reshape the Earth’s atmosphere and oceans. This document, laden with grandiose claims and alarming uncertainties, outlines a vision that is as scientifically questionable as it is ethically troubling.
NOAA’s fact sheet emphasizes the role of human-caused CO2 emissions as a primary driver of climate change, leading to a slew of environmental changes, from ocean acidification to altered marine food webs.
