Low-Lying Bangladesh Growing in Size

By Paul Homewood

A new study has analysed how rivers and the coast have changed over the years in Bangladesh:

There is a lot of technical stuff, but one surprising finding is that that low-lying Bangladesh has grown in size over the last 34 years.

This of course goes against the commonly held belief that land is being eroded away by storms and rising seas.

As the maps show, it is a mixed bag. Some area have seen a loss of land, but this is more than offset by gains elsewhere.

But none of this should come as a surprise, because this is how deltas work. They are always in a constant state of flux, as river channels move around, mud banks erode away, all to be replaced by silt brought from upstream.
