Antarctic sea ice extent has been relatively low for the last couple of years, but has recovered since this time last year

But when we look at sea ice volume, rather than extent, we see a different story.
As at October, when ice was close to its maximum, the volume was higher than some years in the 1980s.

This usually indicates wind patterns. Strong winds from the north push the ice polewards, thus reducing extent but also increasing thickness. This is when the Southern Annular Mode (SAM) goes negative, a perfectly natural oscillation that has nothing to do with climate change.
Certainly there is nothing alarming to be seen in the bottom two graphs.
