It looks like India’s transition to renewable energy has been put on ice for another year!

In the year ended March 25, India still relied on coal and gas for 74.5% of its electricity supply. Nuclear and hydro added another 11.9%.
Meanwhile solar power contributed just 7.9%, up from 6.7% last year. Meanwhile wind, generating just 4.6%, is a busted flush for India – generation did not increase at all year on year, and only 4 GW of new capacity has been added in the last 12 months.
Thermal output also increased slightly, up 2.7% since 2023/24.
We also need to remember that in total energy terms, rather than just electricity, India only got 6% of primary energy from renewables.
