Imback

me

Although he’s been running this blog as a labor of love for more than ten years, Anthony has never had more than a week or so off to relax and recharge.

Long time readers will remember me from the pre-Climategate days and the tumultuous period during and after.

I’ll be running the blog for the next couple of months while Anthony takes some well-deserved time off.

To introduce myself to readers who don’t have squatters’ rights that reach back into that distant past, here are a few posts from that ancient time, the old days, when the Internet ran on steam.

So things may be a little different around here through August.

I hope we can have some fun.

And don’t hate change.

EIA data shows wind & solar provide only 3.2% of U.S. 2016 energy

Submitted by Larry Hamlin

A recent EIA report  on energy production shows that wind and solar despite receiving tens of billions in government subsidies provided only 3.2% of U.S. energy in year 2016.

The EIA energy data shows that fossil, nuclear and hydro provided more than 90% of 2016 U.S. energy production with rising petroleum and natural gas use while coal use is declining.

While the mainstream media continues to hype the role of decades long heavily government subsidized renewable energy the reality of U.S. and global energy use continues to be highly dependent upon fossil, nuclear and hydro energy resources.

Wind disappears in South Australia, costing wind-industry millions, BOM blames climate change even though models predicted faster winds

Wind disappears in South Australia, costing wind-industry millions, BOM blames climate change even though models predicted faster winds

The wind fizzled out over the South East slab of Australia during June. Predictably, that meant the wind industry lost millions, and wholesale electricity prices went up. When the BOM was asked where the wind had gone, Darren Ray, expert climatologist, said it was due to a high pressure system over the bight, which, he explained, was linked to “climate change”. Thus, as the world warms, wind farms will be progressively more useless in South Australia. Perhaps the BOM should have mentioned that before SA became dependent on wind farms?

I don’t think he had thought this one through.

Perhaps the BOM is hoping that the masochistic sacrifice of South Australia will stop global warming before global warming stops the wind farms?

You might think that if the global climate models could see this coming they would have suggested that wind farms weren’t such a good answer. Or maybe, since climate models predict every equal and opposite outcome in unison, the models are always right post hoc, but not so useful in projections?
