It could be the lamest COP meeting yet

The EU political Queen Ursula von der Leyen is going to miss the event, which some call a “fatal signal”. But Joe Biden and Emmanual Macron are not going either. It just doesn’t have the social cachet these days in the wake of the US election.

A senior member of Azerbaijan’s COP29 team has been caught red handed using the “climate” conference to line up investors in Azerbaijan’s oil and gas fields. The sad truth is, that in terms of the world’s poor, this was probably the most productive event at the conference. This little story is so emblematic of the corruptocrat blob.

Every year thousands of bureaucrats meet in an exotic location for a UN conference to agree not to solve “global warming”. Next week will be the 29th failure. It is the Olympics of Big Government rorts. This is not just a few hundred climate scientists catching up for a weekend, there are forty or fifty thousand grifters meeting, not just for a few days but for two money-sucking weeks. After they’ve used the tax dollars to get there, they sit around and discuss how they will divvy up the loot, the other tax dollars, called “climate finance”, as if the atmosphere wants a loan.

In a secret recording a fake Hong Kong investor said he wanted to sponsor the conference but in return needed to discuss “investment opportunities” in local gas fields — ain’t that just the way the whole climate cartel rolls? Everybody pretending to look after the planet, but really looking out for themselves.

A secret recording shows the chief executive of Azerbaijan’s COP29 team, Elnur Soltanov, discussing “investment opportunities” in the state oil and gas company with a man posing as a potential investor.

“We have a lot of gas fields that are to be developed,” he says.

The BBC has been shown documents and secret video recordings made by the human rights organisation, Global Witness.

However, this is the second year in a row the BBC has revealed alleged wrongdoing by the host government.

Where was the BBC for the other 27 conferences — covering up the crime.

The horse-trading starts Monday. But

“The last three Cop meetings have gone around in circles, producing no tangible results for small island states. Cop29 will be no different, so Papua New Guinea will not participate at the political level,” Tckatchenko said.

Humans are a gregarious species. Consider the bizarre effect the last Trump victory appears to have had on liberal Canadians in Ontario. In the months after Trump won last time, there were slightly fewer boys babies born there than expected. The deficit of boys peaked in March 2017, but the effect, as weird as it was (in the country next door) was only seen in Liberal-leaning areas.

The win led to a brief decline in the number of boys born in Ontario, according to a study led by Dr. Ravi Retnakaran, an endocrinologist at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto. It was published Monday in BMJ Open, a British medical journal.

The study showed that unexpected election results had a similar effect on birth sex ratio that researchers commonly see in disasters such as terrorist attacks, said Retnakaran. This was seen in liberal-leaning ridings, where Trump’s win may have been seen as a societal stressor, he said.

Obviously there’s no way to prove cause and effect, but a similar pattern occurred after terrorist attacks like 9/11, the Sandy Hook massacre, and the 2011 Norway shootings:

The data showed that the lowest ratio of boys to girls born in the 12 months after the election happened in March 2017. That’s exactly within the three to five month window that the sex ratio would change after an adverse societal event, said Retnakaran.

When researchers further analyzed the data, they found there were only fewer boys born in Liberal-leaning areas.

The cost of tribal political hysteria

The researchers think that this is a selective event happening in mid-pregnancy, which is why it affects the ratio of babies born in March after a November election. In theory, at conception, the ratio of boys to girls is 50:50, but if a pregnant woman suffers a “societal stressor” during weeks 20 to 25 they are more likely to lose the boy babies rather than the girls. I guess we could call these political miscarriages.

Obviously nearly all babies are fine, but winding up the population in politicized tribal battles has a price.

Imagine if the news media were calm, neutral players?

Incredible that an election is being discussed in a scientific paper in the same role as a terrorist attack.
