Bloomberg Steps In to Privately Fund UN Climate Programmes

Essay by Eric Worrall

Maybe they never needed government money after all.

Billionaire Michael Bloomberg to fund UN climate change body after US exits Paris Agreement

The core of the UNFCCC’s budget comes from its almost 200 member countries.

One of President Donald Trump’s first moves in office this week was to withdraw the US from the Paris Agreement, as he did the first time he was President.

Just three days later, billionaire Michael Bloomberg stepped in to help the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) remain fully funded despite the US ending its international climate contributions.

Bloomberg, the former New York City mayor, a UN special envoy on climate change and, according to the Forbes’ global billionaires list, the 16th richest person in the world, announced his funding pledge on 23 January.

…

“From 2017 to 2020, during a period of federal inaction, cities, states, businesses, and the public rose to the challenge to uphold our nation’s commitments – and now, we are ready to do it again,” Bloomberg in a statement.

Bloomberg paid a few UN invoices last time President Trump stopped climate payments, which led to Bloomberg sharing the honor of being appointed UN climate envoy with a Hollywood personality and a cartoon character.

I personally think Bloomberg’s generous willingness to replace government expenditures with his own cash, and his push to make funding of UN climate programmes a voluntary act of philanthropy for the wealthy is a settlement we can all support – a brilliant way to defuse political disagreements over appropriate use of public money.

Well done Michael Bloomberg.

Davos: UN Introduces AI as “The next existential threat”

Essay by Eric Worrall

Climate crisis move aside, there is a new fake emergency in town.

At Davos, Guterres slams backsliding on climate commitments

22 January 2025

The world’s political and business elite present in Davos on Wednesday faced an uncompromising address from UN chief António Guterres as he rounded on a lack of multilateral collaboration in an “increasingly rudderless world” at risk from two existential dangers: climate change and unregulated Artificial Intelligence (AI).

…

‘Fossil fuel addiction’

Likening fossil fuel addiction to Frankenstein’s monster – “sparing nothing and no one” – the Secretary-General noted the irony that 13 of the world’s biggest ports for oil supertankers are set to be overwhelmed by rising sea levels, a consequence of rising temperatures and sea ice melt, caused overwhelmingly by burning coal, crude oil and natural gas.

…

AI’s untold promise

The next existential threat, AI, is a double-edged sword, Mr. Guterres continued, as it is already revolutionizing learning, diagnosing illnesses, helping farmers to increase their yields and improving the targeting of aid.

But it comes with profound risks if it is left ungoverned: it can disrupt economies, undermine trust in institutions and deepen inequalities, the Secretary-General warned.

OK, maybe by “the next existential threat”, the UN just meant “another existential threat”. But it is an interesting turn of phrase.

Of course, it has been obvious for some time the UN would need a new crisis to replace the faltering climate crisis.

I predicted back in 2017 that AI would be the next fake crisis;

George Soros endorsed the AI crisis in 2023;

The fake AI crisis has long been an obvious replacement for the fake climate crisis, because of its potentially bipartisan appeal. Hollywood has prepped us with lots of scary movies about AI run amok.

So how do we know the AI crisis is fake?

The tell of course is the people are pushing AI crisis narratives are the same people who pushed all the other fake crisis.

Facebook “Fact Checks” Prof. Will Happer

By Angela Wheeler

The only way to combat censorship is to shine a light on it whenever we see it.

In censoring material that contradicts the popular – though increasingly feeble – fiction of a climate crisis, Facebook is quick to discount the credentials of one of the world’s leading scientists while honoring sources of dubious credibility.

Our latest encounter with Facebook came in a message from the platform’s corporate entity, Meta, on December 4, which read: “Your Page, CO2 Coalition, didn’t follow the rules, so it isn’t being suggested to other people right now.”

Sorting through CO2 Coalition’s vast content to find what post could have been so egregious to prompt this reprimand, we found it to be a quote from the renowned Dr. William Happer, professor emeritus of physics at Princeton University and Chairman of the CO2 Coalition Board of Directors. Dr. Happer’s provocative quote?

“Nothing but good can come from more atmospheric CO2. The Earth has experimented with much higher CO2 concentrations than today many times over the Phanerozoic eon, the last 540 million years or so, where the fossil record of life is especially good. Life flourished at four times more CO2 than today. There is no geological evidence that more CO2 will be anything but good for life on Earth.”

Facebook’s “fact check” of Dr. Happer’s quote referenced a group called Climate Feedback that, based on an appearance on CNN, said Dr. Happer “misleads about the impact of rising carbon dioxide on plant life.”

We did a little fact-checking of our own. Having seen the group’s website and a list of financial backers, we believe there is ample reason to be doubtful of Climate Feedback’s adherence to science and veracity.

According to InfluenceWatch.org, Climate Feedback has the same parent company as “the left-leaning fact-checker Politifact.” Both appear to be part of a loose amalgamation of postmodern censors, whose hallmark is to spread misinformation in the form of half-truths and outright falsehoods by accusing others of doing the same.

Perhaps in this case, Facebook’s greatest sin is its willingness to discount – or utterly ignore – Dr. Happer’s record of accomplishment.

In addition to a distinguished career at a prestigious university, Dr. Happer has received numerous awards for service in government and private enterprise. He invented a laser-based technology that made possible President Reagan’s “Star Wars” defense initiative and has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers.

In a recent paper, “The Role of Greenhouse Gases in Energy Transfer in the Earth’s Atmosphere,” Dr. Happer and his coauthor say that whatever greenhouse warmth may be in store for the planet that “basic physics and the geological record indicate that the warming will be small and probably good for life on Earth.”

This and other statements by Dr. Happer are supported by evidence accumulated over many decades – even centuries – by myriad researchers drawing on various disciplines that include physics, geology, biology and history.

Putting up Climate Feedback’s lame challenge against such a legacy of scientific exploration would be laughable if it weren’t for its furtherance of a “green” movement that has cost the world trillions of dollars in wealth that could have been used for something useful. Billions of people suffer for lack of energy resources made more expensive and less available by a fearmongering climate agenda of the ignorant and ignominious.

Facebook also noted on the CO2 Coalition account that they “covered” the offending post “so people can choose whether they want to see it.”

We believe it behooves seekers of truth to examine posts that Facebook chooses to obscure.

Angela Wheeler is Vice President, Marketing and Multimedia, for the CO2 Coalition, Fairfax, Virginia.

Miliband approves huge solar farm being built by Dale Vince

Miliband approves huge solar farm being built by major Labour donor

The Telegraph reports:

Ed Miliband has been criticised after approving an application for a huge solar farm in Lincolnshire owned by millionaire Labour donor Dale Vince.

The Energy Secretary faces scrutiny after approving Heckington Fen Solar Park on Friday, which is owned by Mr Vince’s green energy business Ecotricity.

The decision has angered local residents and councillors, who have accused Mr Miliband of pandering to Mr Vince, who donated £5m to Labour in the run-up to the general election.

Colin Davie, executive councillor for environment, economy and planning at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “We need to ask the question of the Secretary of State as to whether he has declared the nature of his relationship with Dale Vince, the applicant for this site and the Labour Party’s biggest donor.”

GB News also report that locals are furious:

Marc Williams, another Lincolnshire councillor, called the decision “disgraceful” and highlighted Mr Vince’s role as a Labour donor.

He said: “The only people these developments benefit are the people who are behind these businesses.”

Frances Innes, a resident of Navenby village, expressed alarm at the pace of development.

"This is so frightening on how many and how fast these applications are been put forward, these villages are just been swallowed up and suffocated. What is so frustrating is not been listened too," she said.

It has been estimated that Dale Vince has been paid as much as £100 million of subsidies for his wind farms. Now his new solar farm will

Heckington Fen is expected to generate 385 GWh a year, just 0.1% of the UK’s electricity, and its output will be much less in winter when the country actually needs it. Most of the time, the 100,000 homes Vince claims it could power would have to rely entirely on gas power stations.

Based on current market prices, Vince will earn another £6 million a year in subsidies for this new solar farm.
