Record snowfall in Italy traps 170 people

“At least 170 people have been stuck in a hotel near the Stelvio Pass in the mountains between Italy’s northeastern Trentino region and Switzerland for the past three days due to record snowfall,” according to the Italian news service ANSA.

30 Oct 2018 – At least nine people died and many injured as violent storms battered Italy from north to south.

At least 5,800 firefighters carried out 7,000 interventions after floods and high winds caused power black-outs, toppled trees, and interrupted road and train service in several northern regions.

Schools remained shut for the second day in many cities across Italy as rivers broke their banks in the northern mountain regions of Alto Adige and Veneto, while 70% of the city of Venice was flooded, according to RAI News 24 public broadcaster.
