Charles’ Missed Deadlines

The Telegraph’s Charles Moore offers us his take on Prince Charles’ latest silly speech:

Last week, the Prince of Wales warned Commonwealth leaders that they have only 18 months to “decide our ability to keep climate change to sustainable levels”. In 2009, in Brazil, HRH announced that the world had 100 months left to save the planet from “irretrievable climate collapse”. His deadline duly came and went in 2017, without catastrophe, so I got in touch with the Clarence House press office to ask what Prince Charles predicted now. I got a slightly mumbled answer about how we might be looking more at some date in the 2030s.

Now that he has reverted to the end of the world being very nigh indeed, I have not the heart to trouble his staff with further questions. But I think we can all be serenely confident that they – and the rest of us – will still be getting on with life perfectly normally in early 2021, quite regardless of whatever Commonwealth leaders do or do not decide.
