The Past and the Future

IMPORTANT:  Do not, repeat not, automatically believe the words below.  Question them!!  Think about them!!  Seek contrary views!!  Then and only then, decide on their veracity.

For the young guys and gals still going to school you might consider going to college and studying in the STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).  For many working in those fields it is so interesting that most don’t think of it as ‘work’ and the pay ‘ain’t bad’ either!!  One of the main tools in all the sciences is called a ‘graph,’ literally a picture and as the ancient Chinese philosopher Confucius said; ‘A picture is worth a thousand words.’  A picture tells a story and so let’s look at the story below.

Credibility

A theory may be defined as an assumption – a thing that is accepted as true or as certain to happen, (but) without proof.  Empirical data is information collected by recorded observation.  Around 1970 we were told the theory that man’s burning of fossil fuels that emit CO2 (carbon dioxide) would create a worldwide Ice Age.  Around 1985 the same theory was brought forth excepting, now, Global Warming would happen. Hmmmm???? Think of the word credibility. Empirical data shows that Global temperatures have not risen for the last 20 years.

The story (above) is a history described in it’s title and the numbers around the graph are explained and pretty easy to understand.  For example at ~600 million years ago (~  means approximate) the earth’s atmospheric temperature was 22°C and CO2 was at ~2800ppm (parts per million).  Now, this graph does not show records to the present day and about 2.5 million years have to be added but that’s for another graph later.

All of this information comes from geological information (the study of earth and the processes acting on them, another science) and we’re living in the Holocene Era of life’s geologic history. Our present atmospheric temperature is ~14.5°C which is about 7.5°C lower, repeat lower than most of earth’s life. That is IMPORTANT.

Global Warming

For many decades everybody has been told the Global Warming theory, #MAN BAD and #CARBON DIOXIDE BAD.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  As above we’ve been told that if man keeps using CO2 producing fossil fuels all life on earth will die!!!

We’ve been told that if earth’s temperature rises 2°C all human, animal and plant life will die. Not!!  Surf the net and find Jurassic and/or Triassic eras on Wiki or NatGeo (see graph).  There were no humans then but life was abundant.  The world was green and teeming with animal life.

We’ve been told that CO2 will make the oceans acidic and all life in them will die.  In those eras CO2 was, as shown, ~2800ppm which is about 5 times today’s level and the oceans then could not have been acidic as they were full of life.

Cold is our enemy and warmth is our friend

Another thing shown on the graph is at the very bottom right and look at the CO2 level which was at ~180ppm and that’s when life on earth nearly died.  Important: When CO2 drops under 150ppm plants die and then humans and animals die.  That was also when many more long periods of Ice Ages started.  If you live in the Northern parts of the U.S. or Canada you may have wondered why vegetables are so expensive at the grocery store in the winter.  It’s because plants don’t grow in the cold and they have to be trucked in from the warmer south.  Plants and humans are warm blooded and cold is our enemy and warmth is our friend.

Biological Clocks: Big numbers

Time is a funny thing for people.  A fun day at the beach passes so, so quickly and one hour in a boring classroom seems like one billion years.  To really understand the graph you have to get your bean into understanding Time.  The biological clock of earth and humans is massively different.  The earth is 4,600,000,000 years old.  That’s four billion, 600 million in words.  Today’s average human life span is 71.5 years and so earth’s life equals about 65,335,554 human lifespans. That sixty five million……..  Then just as important is understanding change.

Change and Climate

It has been said that the only thing constant is change.  Correctomundo!!  All life is constantly changing in nanoseconds (1 billionth of a second) including climates. Without change life will not go on.  Change is in your future and don’t fear it.  Embrace it as it is life’s most wondrous journey.  Next, Climate uses the number 30 (years), as establishing a defined type of climate which is defined as a set of weather events or patterns within that time period.  Weather changes because temperature changes and in the graph as the temperatures changed so did weather and climates.  In our present climate (since 1990) weather events have not become more severe or frequent.

Here’s another Not!!  There is no such thing as earth’s average climate or temperature.  Day and night there are 1000’s of different temperatures all constantly changing.  Also, there are hundreds of different types of climates.  To understand surf to Koppen climate maps.  Add in seasonal changes and the idea of an average temperature, although used, is misleading.  Hopefully you’re starting to ‘get the picture’ and might just start thinking about what you’ve been told!!  Remember this, skepticism is the road to truth.  Always question your teachers, without mercy.  Allrightey, a bit more before recess.

Star Trek and CO2

Everybody’s watched Scotty beaming down ‘Carbon Lifeforms,’ the C in CO2 but let’s explain that quickly.  It’s the chemical shorthand for a molecule of Carbon Dioxide. Di in Latin means two and so it’s 1 atom of carbon and 2 atoms of oxygen.  CO2 is the bringer of all life on earth, that you have been wrongly told is a dangerous pollutant.  Carbon is the fourth most abundant element in the universe by mass after hydrogen, helium, and oxygen. It is the second most abundant element in the human body by mass (about 18.5%) after oxygen, thus, ‘carbon lifeforms.’

Next is oxygen that animals (including fish) and humans need to live.  Here’s one of the miracles in the universe.  CO2 entered earth’s atmosphere about 4 billion years ago and then the miracle took place.  Plants, algae and cyanobacteria use CO2 and combined with water and sunlight (photosynthesis) they create the food (carbohydrates – sugar) for the plants to live on.  Here’s a giggle.  The pooh or waste products from plants is Oxygen!!!  Neato and BTW every time you exhale it’s all CO2 at about 40,000ppm.  So do you want to stop breathing to Save the World???

The Future

This author is angry!!!  For years you’ve been told that the future is bleak, grim and full of danger and yes even death because of CO2.  Frightening people, especially kids is immoral, wrong!!  Those who believe in the theoretical dangers of Climate Change will reply; ‘No, no we’re trying to save children, the science is real.’  But there’s a problem with that and here’s one of several similar statements.  Saikat Chakrabarti is Congresswoman A. Occasio Cortez’s chief of staff.  As I’m sure you know, she is pushing her Green New Deal to end climate change. Here’s a quote from Chakrabarti; “it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all … we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.”  Now do you understand why many refer to Climate Change as a Hoax??

Look at the graph and here’s the hidden story.  It goes back 600 million years and it is as said a story of constant change.  Millions of plants and animals have appeared, become extinct but new life has formed and proliferated.  There have been hot dry climates, cold wet climates, droughts, floods, typhoons, rising and falling oceans, ice ages, forest fires, volcanoes, tsunamis, torrential rain, pestilence, earthquakes, deadly snowstorms, avalanches and more.  Man is a newcomer, only about 200,000 years old and we’ve not only survived all those deadly things nature has thrown at us we’ve multiplied and prospered. The human race as children have made mistakes but we’ve learned to care for the Environment and will continue doing so.  Yes, the world may become warmer or as the history shows, colder.  Enjoy your every day and do not fear the future.  Remember President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s famous words; ‘The only thing we have to fear…. is fear itself.’

Ringy-dingy-ding-dong, school’s finished for the day. LOLLOL
