I contacted NOAA and sent them Tony Heller’s video. It turns out that Tony didn’t exactly give his viewers all of the critical details. NOAA spokesperson Derek Arndt gave me the following explanation for the alleged “discrepancies” in their graphs that Heller thinks are deceptive but actually aren’t. Here’s Arndt’s response verbatim:
“These maps are looking at the data in two different ways.
The “anomaly” map shows temperature departures from the 1981-2010 average for July. The “percentile” map shows where the July 2019 temperature for a grid box fits within the long-term (80-140 year) record for July. The 1981-2010 period was significantly warmer than the period-of-record for much of the earth. Comparing today’s temperatures to this warmer period will naturally result in more blue on the map. For example, there are places on the map for which the temperature was near or slightly below the 1981-2010 average, but still on the warmer side of the long term average.”
Get ALL the facts before believing a conspiracy theorist like Heller. He’s a scam artist.
