Nord Stream 2 Will Double German Gas Imports From Russia

By Paul Homewood

While the government threatens to turn off our gas supplies, it is worth remembering what the Germans are doing!

The new Nord Stream 2 pipeline, financed by Gazprom and five western companies five western companies, ENGIE, OMV, Royal Dutch Shell, Uniper and Wintershall, will soon be able to double the volume of gas Germany imports from Russia, currently around 40% of total German gas consumption.

Although gas production in the Netherlands is declining, it seems probable that imports from Norway will continue at that level for the foreseeable future.

Everything therefore points to German imports and consumption of natural gas increasing as the new pipeline comes on stream, in stark contrast to this country.

I am equally sure that the major investors in this project would not have put their money up without legally binding guarantees from the German government.

It’s T-Shirt Weather In Antarctica!

By Paul Homewood

When one day’s weather is climate!

 image

Argentine scientists on the Esperanza base who confirmed the reading said that wasn’t the only record broken this week. The nation’s Marambio site registered the highest temperature for the month of February since 1971. Thermometers there hit 14.1 Celsius, above the previous February 2013 reading of 13.8 Celsius.

The reports are shocking, but not surprising, said Frida Bengtsson, who is leading a expedition to the Antarctic for the environmental group Greenpeace.

“We’ve been in the Antarctic for the last month, documenting the dramatic changes this part of the world is undergoing as our planet warms,” she said in an email. “In the last month, we’ve seen penguin colonies sharply declining under the impacts of climate change in this supposedly pristine environment.”

Antarctica is among the fastest-warming regions in the planet, with the Antarctic Peninsula, where the Argentine bases are located, warming particularly quickly, according to the World Meteorological Organization. Average temperatures on the continent have risen almost 3 degree Celsius over the past 50 years, and during that time glaciers along the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula have retreated.

WMO experts will now investigate whether the warm event recorded by Argentine scientists is a weather phenomenon known as foehn. That is a common event in Alpine regions that often involves high winds at altitude and the rapid warming of air as it heads down slopes or peaks, driven by significant air pressure differences, the WMO said in a statement.

The WMO will also determine whether the temperature extreme is a new record for the entire Antarctic landmass. The Signy island in the Antarctic region, which includes everywhere south of 60 degrees latitude, recorded an all-time high temperature of 19.8 Celsius in January 1982. The average annual temperature ranges from about -10 Celsius on the Antarctic coast to -60 Celsius at the highest points of the interior.

So does this mean the Antarctic is going into meltdown?

For a start, Bloomberg are incorrect in stating that the previous record was five years ago. In fact, the previous highest temperature was 18.0C set as long ago as 13th March 1979:

A increase from 18.0C to 18.3C over a period of 41 years is hardly cause for panic, particularly when foehn winds can make such a big difference. And as the graph shows, occasional warmish days at Esperanza are not unheard of.

Longer climate trends at Esperanza show a rise in temperatures until around 1980, since when there has been little change:

 https://data.giss.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/gistemp/stdata_show_v4.cgi?id=AYM00088963&ds=14&dt=1

More significantly though, summer temperatures have actually been steadily declining there since 2002:

https://data.giss.nasa.gov/tmp/gistemp/STATIONS/tmp_AYM00088963_14_0_1/station.txt

Which brings us to this ludicrous claim:

Antarctica is among the fastest-warming regions in the planet, with the Antarctic Peninsula, where the Argentine bases are located, warming particularly quickly, according to the World Meteorological Organization

As we are increasingly finding out, it appears that most places in the world are “warming faster than everywhere else ”!

Unsurprisingly, when we check the actual data though, we find nothing of the sort. Temperatures have in fact barely changed at all since the 1970s:

But apparently a “scientist” from Greenpeace, who has been there just a month, can see the dramatic changes this part of the world is undergoing as our planet warms.

Boris The Red

Forget Brexit – if it ever happens. Boris Johnson’s new ‘Conservative’ government plans to take the UK into a new era of Big Government tax and spend predicated on a new found overarching existential concern for the environment unprecedented in its history. Forget the Industrial Revolution, The Tech Revolution and the Brexit Innovation Free Trade Revolution; forget also the image of shabby little men beavering away at 4D Chess to generate a Utopian Win Win via a complex and bewildering series of Dark Moves cunningly designed to wrongfoot the malign Dark Forces. The Dark Moves are the Dark Forces and they have decided that the future is bleak and austere – and tightly controlled by elitist technocrats unaccountable to the electorate. Deep Green One Nation Toryism is the new Red and Boris is the man who will introduce it to the world at COP 26 (aka ‘The Mad Hatter’s Glasgow Tea Cosy Party’).

Traditional Tories and Tory voters are aghast, but they made it happen. They trusted Boris to ‘Get Brexit Done’ and thence to proceed without further ado to the sunlit uplands of global free trade combined with light touch government regulation sparking innovation and free enterprise – opportunity for all based on traditional conservative free market capitalist principles. How wrong they were. ‘Vote Brexit Party, get Corbyn’, they said. So they voted Conservative and they got Corbyn. Boris the Blond became Boris the Red in just two short months and Brexit is far, far from being ‘done’.

I won’t say I told you so, but I told you so:

I’ve never less wanted to be proven correct, but he’s shaping up to my worst fears, and even exceeding them. Go aheads for Huawei, probably HS2, bringing forward a ban on petrol and diesel cars to 2035 ‘or sooner if feasible’, doubling offshore wind capacity, quite likely giving in to EU demands to fish UK territorial waters, barmy climate assemblies, taxi services for Calais illegal immigrants, a White Paper on banning gas central heating from homes, now mooted tax raids on pensions and expensive home owners. I guess he’s going to have find the money somewhere to fund the possible £12 trillion cost of #netzero which will ‘save the planet’ by reducing global mean surface temperature by 0.014C. Former Chief of Staff Gavin Barwell warns that Boris will ‘compromise’ on hardline EU demands for a trade deal, rather than go to WTO in Dec 2020. I’m inclined to believe him. This means the UK will probably be closely aligned with EU law – including on the environment and climate change. It means a far-reaching trade agreement with Trump’s US looks increasingly uncertain – especially after Boris royally pissed off The Donald by agreeing to let Huawei build UK 5G infrastructure.

Dark days for Britain. Five years of this crap and the country may well be done for. Even the normally upbeat Dellers is pessimistic:

Ben is even more gloomy:
