Snow Falls In South Australia While Tasmania Records Lowest Temperature On Record

Snow has fallen in South Australia during an unusually cold snap, covering the Flinders Ranges in a layer of white.

Clear skies, light winds, lingering cold air and a snow-covered ground all helped temperatures plummet across Tasmania’s central highlands overnight.

People have taken to social media sharing images of the snow-covered ranges.

Today’s snow event follows consecutive days of ice-cold temperatures with the town of Keith recording its lowest temperature on record yesterday.

Keith, in the state’s south-east, dipped to -4.7 degrees Celsius just before 5.15am — a record low for the town.

Meanwhile, Tasmanian’s woke to record-breaking lows with the state recording its lowest temperature on record.

Liawenee broke Tasmania’s minimum temperature record this morning, reaching a bone-chilling -14.2C just after 6am.\

The previous record was over three decades ago when temperatures in Butlers George fell to -13C in 1983.

This is the lowest temperature ever reliably recorded in Tasmania and the equal lowest temperature in Australia during the last nine years.
