A New Year gift for Siberians prepared by Santa Claus

The mercury will drop to almost -50°C.

The head of the Meteo forecasting center Alexander Shuvalov warns that surprises await on New Year’s Eve.

“On Thursday and Friday, the Moscow region will be covered with snow. We predict an increase in the height of snowdrifts by 10-15 cm, a little more in the west of the region, less in the east ”, comments Alexander Shuvalov.

But the most unpleasant time will be in southern regions, where heavy rain and hail are expected. As of Monday, the elements will reach the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus. In Sochi and Tuapse, the amount of precipitation per day can exceed 50 mm (this is almost two monthly standards in Moscow).

In Siberia on Monday, the temperature in Norilsk will drop to -44°C. This cold will be here all week.

“This is just the beginning of the truly icy cold that is preparing to hit southern Siberia,” explains the meteorologist.

In December, the temperature here has already dropped below normal. A decrease of 15-20 degrees is expected, in some places 25 degrees. ‘And it is possible for this to happen in 24 hours’. Khanty-Mansiysk, Surgut and Nizhnevartovsk will also be affected. On Thursday, December 24, it will drop to -40°C.

On Friday, December 25, it will drop below the 40 degree mark in Tomsk. In Novosibirsk, Kemerovo and Barnaul it will drop to -30 … -35°C . And the whole weekend here around -45°C.

On Sunday in Kansk, Achinsk,Krasnoyarsk, Bratsk and Ust-Ilimsk the mercury will drop to almost -50°C.
