Another One Bites the Dust: 200 Tonne Wind Turbines Continually Beaten By Gravity

Throwing their 12-20 tonne blades to the four winds, spontaneously combusting and collapsing in catastrophic fashion is what wind turbines do best; these things appear to be in a constant battle with gravity.

Remember, this is the power source that promises a clean, ‘green’ future! And that rural communities just can’t wait have hundreds of these things speared into their backyards. Except, of course, if those backyards belong to former Greens leaders, like Dr Bob Brown.

This time it’s the good folk of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario enjoying the sort of chaos that the wind industry is renowned for delivering to rural communities, across the globe.

BluEarth Renewables has taken all of its wind turbines offline at the Bow Lake Wind Facility north of Sault Ste. Marie after one of the turbines on site was severely damaged last week.

A spokesperson for BluEarth informed SooToday that it responded to an incident resulting in structural damage to a wind turbine at the Bow Lake Wind Facility at approximately 12 a.m. Aug. 28. Reader submitted photos show the turbine resting in pieces on the ground.

The company says that no one was in the vicinity of the turbine when the incident occurred, and that local authorities and regulatory agencies have been notified.

“BluEarth is taking this very seriously and the company’s focus is on responding to the incident and ensuring the safety of the public and the environment,” reads a statement issued by BluEarth on Aug. 29. “The location has been secured and BluEarth requests that no members of the community attempt to access the location. BluEarth will initiate a full investigation into the cause of the incident.”

The 36-turbine wind facility, co-owned through a partnership between BluEarth and Batchewana First Nation, is located approximately 80 kilometres north of Sault Ste. Marie.

Batchewana First Nation has declined comment.
