I was reminded about this map of the villages lost to the sea in the East Riding:

It is published by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
According to researcher Brian Williams, the coastline has retreated by about two to three miles since Roman times.which equates to about 1.5m a year.
The East Riding Council publication notes that the recent rate of erosion is similar.
