Quite why the Telegraph keeps giving space to the likes of Claire Perry to peddle her dishonest propaganda is beyond me:
With blades the size of nine London buses, covering an area equivalent to 36,000 football pitches off the Cumbrian coast, and generating enough clean electricity to power more than 600,000 homes, Walney Extension deals in big numbers and means big business and bigger opportunity for the UK.
The opening of the world’s biggest offshore wind farm comes 10 years since we passed the Climate Change Act. Since then we have grown our economy while cutting carbon faster than the rest of the G7, a global leadership position that proves tackling climate change is one of the great industrial opportunities of our time….
Our world-beating offshore wind industry is part of the backbone of our success. We have embraced our natural environment as one of the windiest countries in the world, with the UK accounting for more than half of new offshore wind power capacity build in Europe last year. Today renewables provide almost one third of our electricity, with wind accounting for half of that and prices falling by more than 50pc in only a few years. This is enabling us to get much more clean energy for less while ensuring consumers get a fair deal.
Amidst the lies about falling prices, Ms Perry managed to forget to mention how much electricity from Walney will actually cost:

Yes, £166.59/MWh, nearly four times the market price.
Walney is rated at 660MW, meaning that annual subsidies will amount to about £280 million, all paid for out of electricity bills.
Furthermore, this subsidy is index linked and guaranteed for 15 years, making a total of £4.2bn at today’s prices.
Apparently this means ensuring consumers get a fair deal.
