These deaths were caused by the ‘regular’ flu and not – I repeat NOT – by the coronavirus. Perhaps this will help keep things in perspective.
The number of people who have died from the “regular” flu in the United States this season had reached 20,000 as of the end of February, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported.
“CDC estimates that so far this season there have been at least 34 million flu illnesses, 350,000 hospitalizations and 20,000 deaths from flu,” the CDC’s Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report said.
I know the coronavirus figures look particularly grim in Washington State, but were you aware that there have been 245 lab-confirmed ‘regular’ flu deaths in long-term care facilities in the state so far this season? And who knows how many other such deaths that were not lab-confirmed?
