Snowy Mountains, Australia – Nearly 40 inches of snow in 24 hours

“One of the biggest 24-hour storms seen for a long time.” Dangerous driving conditions. Some roads closed.

“Well, that was an incredible 24 hours for the NSW resorts with 70-100cms (27.5-39.4 inches) of snow in a 24-hour period, the higher totals falling above 1800 metres, but there was also snow all the way down to Jindabyne and beyond.”

Dangerous driving conditions saw the roads closed to both Thredbo and Perisher for much of the day. The Alpine way, yesterday afternoon.

Secrecy & Stonewalling: China and SARS 1.0

China gave the WHO permission to send in investigators, but wouldn’t allow them near the affected area after they’d arrived. They departed empty-handed, two weeks later.

In November and December of 2002, a handful of people residing in Guangdong province, in southeastern China, developed serious respiratory problems. Normal medical treatments didn’t seem to work. Alarmingly, the illness spread to 7 medical personnel at one hospital. At another hospital, 10 staff members were infected. China said nothing about this to the rest of the world.

In January 2003, more patients were hospitalized in the same region, and more medical personnel fell ill. When a woman died in a Hong Kong hospital after visiting the mainland, a request for additional information by Hong Kong health authorities was ignored. The World Health Organization (WHO) was similarly kept in the dark.

Only after the WHO started asking questions did China – on February 11 – acknowledge 305 cases, and five deaths.

On February 20th, China granted the WHO permission to send in investigators. But after they arrived in Beijing, Chinese authorities wouldn’t allow them near the affected area 1,000 miles away. They departed empty-handed, two weeks later.

Meanwhile, a doctor who’d been treating SARS patients in Guangdong traveled to Hong Kong for a wedding. Before dying in hospital there, he infected several individuals, including tourists on the same floor of his hotel who subsequently brought SARS to Canada, Singapore, and Vietnam.

In late February, Carlo Urbani, a WHO infectious disease expert based in Hanoi, raised the alert within that organization after observing how easily the virus was spreading to health care workers (he, himself, would die of SARS four weeks later, at the age of 46).

By mid-March, after a Hong Kong hospital likewise reported the infection of medical personnel, the WHO broadcast a global warning, recommended that such patients be kept isolated, and began issuing travel advisories. It named the new disease, which was caused by a new coronavirus, SARS – Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome.

On March 23rd, a second WHO team arrived in Beijing. Eleven days after that, on April 3rd, it was finally given access to Guangdong.

The story of SARS 1.0 is a story of secrecy and stonewalling. By China.

SARS killed approximately 1,000 people worldwide. The only deaths outside of Asia occurred in Canada, where 44 individuals lost their lives, and where the spread was limited to a few hospitals and to people who came into contact with those hospitals – as patients, visitors, staff members, and first responders.

The United States had 27 non-fatal SARS cases, Germany had 9, Australia 6, and Sweden 5. Officially, less than 8,100 people across the globe contracted that disease.

Nevertheless, SARS scared the wits out of political leaders and public health officials. In the aftermath, new international rules got written. They clearly indicate that governments have an obligation to alert the WHO sooner rather than later when something strange is going on.

But in late 2019, when another totally new coronavirus emerged in China, it was déjà vu all over again.

Study Finds Coronavirus Immunity Could Be Lost In Months

From The Daily Caller

NICHOLAS ELIAS CONTRIBUTORJuly 13, 2020 12:19 PM ET

A study released Saturday by King’s College London shows that people may lose their immunity to COVID-19 within months and could be susceptible to reinfection on a yearly basis.

Scientists at King’s College London analyzed the amount of antibodies in 90 patients and healthcare workers at Guy and St. Thomas’ NHS trust, per the study. The analysis found that antibody production peaked three weeks after symptoms began and then declined rapidly. (RELATED: Phoenix-Area Hospitals Run Out Of Morgue Beds As Coronavirus Deaths Surge)

The study found that 60% of patients developed a “potent” response with antibodies at the peak of their infection with the virus, but only 17% retained the potency three months later. Antibody levels dropped so sharply in some patients that they became undetectable.

“People are producing a reasonable antibody response to the virus, but it’s waning over a short period of time and depending on how high your peak is, that determines how long the antibodies are staying around,” Dr. Katie Doores, lead author on the study, told The Guardian

Doores also told The Guardian that a vaccine for the virus might also potentially fall short after a few months.  “People may need boosting and one shot might not be sufficient,” Doores explained.

A vaccine created by the University of Oxford shielded test animals from serious infection, but they were still infected enough to be able to pass the virus to other hosts, per The Guardian.

The study by King’s College London also found that those with severe infections produced the most antibodies. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) names seven different types of coronavirus currently spreading across the globe, most of which create the common cold. Two other strains create MERS and SARS, while the newest strain creates the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19.

“One thing we know about these coronaviruses is that people can get reinfected fairly often,” Prof. Stuart Neil, a co-author on the study, told The Guardian. “What that must mean is that the protective immunity people generate doesn’t last very long. It looks like Sars-Cov-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, might be falling into that pattern as well.”

Cancel Culture Dominates Climate Research, Cancelling the Scientific Method

For more than two decades, politically connected climate scientists have been leading the cancel culture movement.

Contrary to popular perception, “cancel culture,” in which people or their opinions are shamed and shut out of discussion when they don’t conform to whatever those shouting the loudest or rioting in the streets believe, is not a new phenomenon.

For more than two decades, politically connected climate scientists have been leading the cancel culture movement.

These researchers abandoned the pursuit of knowledge and human progress for the pursuit of political power to impose their vision of how society should be shaped. Rather than seeking understanding of the world through the use of the scientific method and its reliance upon data and empirical falsification, they’ve promoted the political notion of consensus as how knowledge is obtained, and comity, rather than experimentation, as how progress is made.

They “cancel” through personal attacks, denial of funding, removing “opponents” from positions, and suppressing the research of any researcher or analyst who dares to disagree with the so-called consensus position humans are causing catastrophic climate change.

Honest scientists who cling to the quaint notion that climate change theory should be tested against data are deemed retrograde or climate deniers, whose views are not worthy of being considered in these days of post-modern climate science. Indeed, many cancelers advocate for imprisoning climate skeptics.

Let’s look at just a couple of examples of where academic conferences and media headlines have given consensus, cancel culture science pride of place over the facts when it comes to alarming climate claims.

Based solely on the unsupported assertions of consensus climate researchers, the media has been flooded with stories claiming human caused climate change is causing famine and starvation.

In late June 2020, Cornell Alliance for Science claimed farmers in sub-Saharan Africa were desperate for new farm technologies and crops to fight a climate change induced decline in crop production that the Alliance claimed was “driving millions [of Africans] into hunger.” Yet data from the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization shows cereal (staple) food crop production across southern Africa has grown substantially, and fairly steadily, since at least the 1960s. Moreover, the past 10 years have provided the 10 highest crop yields in sub-Saharan African history.

Dozens of similarly false claims linking supposed anthropogenic climate change to an agricultural apocalypse were covered by outlets such as Google NewsGQ, the New Republic, and Roll Call, over the past couple of months. Yet, had the journalists writing the stories showed a little bit of investigative initiative they could have easily discovered hundreds of field experiments and studies collected on CO2 Science, much of which was distilled or summarized in the exhaustive report by the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change, Climate Change Reconsidered II: Biological Impacts. These reports show crop yields have been booming and hunger and malnutrition declining as, and in large part because, carbon dioxide concentrations have been rising.

Following the Democratic playbook per Rahm Emmanuel of “never letting a crisis go to waste,” radical climate alarmists have also manipulated science to assert climate change is making pandemics more frequent and deadlier. Dozens of media outlets, including Jurist Legal, the Los Angeles TimesMSNBC, and Time magazine published articles during the midst of the coronavirus pandemic claiming human caused climate change, if not already making the incidences of pandemics more likely, would make them more frequent and more deadly in the future.

For instance, an article in Pro-Publica blatantly lied when it stated, “vector-borne diseases—those carried by insects like mosquitoes and ticks and transferred in the blood of infected people—are also on the rise as warming weather and erratic precipitation vastly expand the geographic regions vulnerable to contagion.”

The body of scientific literature, as detailed in Chapter Four of Climate Change Reconsidered II: Fossil Fuels, shows there is no factual basis for this claim.

Studies from Africa, to England and Wales, to North and South America, to Thailand and beyond find any link between human climate change and the spread of malaria, Dengue fever, West Nile virus, and other vector-borne diseases, either grossly overstated or outright false.

Indeed, historically, colder periods are linked to famine, as crops fail, and the rapid spread of pandemics, like the bubonic plague that ran rampant during the little ice age. By contrast, pandemics typically wane, though not disappear, and hunger and malnutrition decline sharply during relatively warm periods.
