Amidst the ongoing energy crisis, a row has been developing about whether to go ahead with the new Cambo oilfield near the Shetlands.
The potential of the field is huge, expected to produce 800 million barrels over its 25 year life. This works out at about 5% of the UK’s consumption every year, helping to secure supplies and create jobs and wealth.
Naturally the BBC’s coverage has been largely anti-Cambo, along with Starmer and Sturgeon:
The simple reality, however, is that the UK will continue to need both oil and gas for many years to come.
Even the tripling of offshore wind capacity in the next ten years will barely make a dent in the figures below:
